Indoor
Train indoors with both evening skills sessions and week long daytime elite competition camps focused on team play and game situations. Evening position‑specific sessions target training for setters, hitters, middles, liberos, and all‑skills groups in 12U–18U.
Beach
June has beach volleyball at Hastings Park offering maximum play time, high‑touch, small‑court training with two courts and a maximum of 16 athletes per session, all coached by Colby and Sue Soolsma. July and August bring daytime sessions at Kits Beach.
Program Focus
Powerwest’s Summer 2026 Volleyball programs focus on a range of skills, specifically designed for each age group and stage of development.
June: Evening programs focused on fun and game play.
July: Weekly day camps, along with once-a-week position-specific skill-building sessions.
August: Weekly Evening camps focused on school team preparation.
Meet Your Coaches
Our coaching group is the best on the North Shore, highly qualified and actively competing at the highest levels of volleyball. The group is led by Sue Soolsma, Head Coach of the Capilano University women’s team, and 2026 CCAA Women’s Volleyball Coach of the Year and includes coaches for both Capilano University and SFU, as well as former national team members.

Sue Soolsma
Sue Soolsma is an experienced and dedicated volleyball coach with a strong track record across club, provincial, and post-secondary levels. She spent eight years running a volleyball club in Maple Ridge and has served as head coach for the Ducks Volleyball Club. In addition, she has coached with both 604 Volleyball Club and BCO, contributing to athlete development across the Lower Mainland.

Austyn Soolsma
Austyn Soolsma has been coaching volleyball for over 14 years in the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland, building on a lifelong passion for the sport. She has worked with athletes of all ages, from grassroots development programs to provincial-level competition with Team BC initiatives such as the Summer Games and BC Cup.

Benjamin Ta
Ben Ta is a former varsity volleyball athlete at Capilano University and the University of British Columbia. Ben has been previously involved in coaching beach and indoor volleyball for youth, adults, and high-performance athletes for many years. His experiences include assisting the senior women’s national team in 2017 alongside SFU head coach Gina Schmidt and serving as an assistant coach for Team B.C.

Alicia Ogoms
Alicia Ogoms has been a member of the Canadian women’s national volleyball team since 2014, representing Canada at the 2018 FIVB World Championship and the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix. She played her collegiate career at the University of Southern California, where she won the PAC-12 Championship and earned second-team All-American honours.

Maya Jovic
Maya Jovic returned to PowerWest again for her 2nd season as head coach of the 15U White team. She was born in North Vancouver, BC, and attended Sutherland Secondary School and played for various clubs throughout the Lower Mainland.

Anikka Kuznik
Annika Kuznik grew up in Delta, BC, playing club volleyball with Seaside. She is going into her third year on the Capilano University women’s volleyball team. Annika has more than 5 years of club coaching experience.

Aimee Tilly
Aimee Tilly attended Sutherland Secondary School in North Vancouver and played for BCO Volleyball Club from 2015 to 2019. After high school, Aimee moved on to play for the Capilano University Women’s Volleyball team and is currently in her fifth year as a right-side hitter for the Blues
Sign Up Flexibility
This year, athletes can sign up on a week-by-week basis, instead of a full month to allow for flexibility around vacations.
Age Category Restrictions
Athletes should register under their age category from last year until August 31. After August 31, athletes register under their new age category for the upcoming year. Athletes who played down an age category are welcome to register under the age they played in, or the age above.
